Sure, blogs may not get as much attention as they once did, but they are one type of website that looks as if it&#8217;s here to stay. No matter why you have a blog&#8211;to earn money, to promote a product, or just as personal journal&#8211;it&#8217;s only logical that you would like to know how to increase blog traffic. After all, you have it online for a reason, right? Wanting to get more traffic to it is only natural.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>First, some good news: search engines love blogs. This means you have a good chance of picking up what&#8217;s known as &#8216;organic traffic&#8217;. The main search engines are looking for is to return relevant results to the people who are searching. Blogs fit the bill on two counts:</p>

<p>1. Blogs are centered around one topic. Maybe it&#8217;s a personal blog where you talk about the stuff that happens to you, or the ideas you have. In that case, the focus is. On the other hand, if you&#8217;re blogging to make money, then your blog will have a more narrow focus. Either way, the search engines like this type of content.</p>

<p>2. Blogs are updated on a regular basis. Search engines tend to place more importance on those websites that have newer content. Once you understand this, it should give you all the motivation you need to post to your blog frequently. Every day or do should be just fine, but try your best to not wait more than one week between posts.</p>

<p>That explains why blogs are a good choice for sharing your message with the world, but what about ways to increase blog traffic? One thing you can do is learn some of the basics of search engine optimization (also known as SEO). This will teach you what things you can do to make your blog look better for the search engines, and that can bring you more traffic.</p>

<p>Choosing the right keywords to build your content around is one of the first things you need to do. You need to find out what terms people are entering at the search engines, and then find out how many are searching for each keyword or phrase. It&#8217;s not really a complicated process, but it takes a bit of time to find the best keywords. Doing so will help you to write your posts in a way that will give you the biggest return on your efforts.</p>

<p>The other way to increase blog traffic is to submit articles to article directories. You should have already done the most important step, which is keyword research. You then simply write articles based on those keywords, and then submit them. At the end of the article, you will be allowed to add a link back to your site. This is a double whammy because one of the things that search engines like nearly as much as blogs is search engines.</p>

The success of your promotion in an ezine will depend on a number of factors. Here are some things that will help you to make the most of your marketing efforts.</p>

<p>The first thing you need to do is some research. This is broken down into two steps. Step one is to find as many ezines as you can that are related to whatever it is you are promoting. Remember to include publications that may be ideal for cross promotion, too. For example, if you sell accessories for recreational vehicles, then you would want to look at any RV newsletters, as well as those that are related to domestic travel, retirement, and campgrounds. The bigger your initial list, the better.</p>

<p>The second step in researching is to find out what you can about each of the ezines on your list. At the bare minimum you should know the number of subscribers, typical open and click-through rate, and what all of their advertising options are. If you can&#8217;t find any contact information, or you don&#8217;t get a response from them, then move on to other ezines that are more willing to work directly with advertisers.</p>

<p>Once you have all of this information, you should be able to start narrowing your list down to the ones that look best for you. However, you are not ready to purchase any ad space quite yet. At this point you should subscribe to any of the ezines you&#8217;re interested in. This will give you an idea of how often they send their ezine, and how often they send other promotional messages. If they publish once a month, but send out &#8220;special offers&#8221; two times a day, then your message will only get lost in the shuffle. Subscribing will also give you a better feel for what the ezine is really about. You can also look over any archived copies of the ezine that are available.</p>

<p>Remember that your reputation will be tied in directly to that of the ezine, and vice-versa. Therefore you need to choose wisely. At the same time, be aware that many publications will take some time before approving your ad. If this happens, you should take it as a positive sign as it shows they care about the content they send to their subscribers.</p>

<p>By now you should have a good idea of where you want to start your ezine advertising campaign. You will have to decide which type of ad is the best for you. Generally speaking, a solo ad will give you the highest return. A solo ad is a special mailing that contains nothing but your ad. This is great news because it means that virtually anybody can start a business if they can spare some extra time.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>You need to consider several factors before deciding what&#8217;s best for you and your business. It will take you longer to build an income if you only use free advertising methods, so it&#8217;s a good idea to start reinvesting a portion of your initial earnings into paid options as soon as you can.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>There are a lot of free ways to market your business online. Some of the better known ones include traffic exchanges, safelists, article marketing, social networking sites, forums and online classified ads. Here is a brief overview of each of these methods.</p>
<p>Traffic exchanges are where you visits a certain number of sites in exchange for people visiting your site. A typical ratio is where you need to visit three sites to get one visit back to yours. You will need to visit each site for about 20 seconds before it counts, but that means others have to visit your site for that amount of time as well. However, it didn&#8217;t take long for people to start blogging for profit. And, once more and more people realized there was money to be made with blogs, they took off to a whole new level. Today, it&#8217;s a safe assumption that most blogs are started in the hopes that they will make money. With that in mind, here some tips to help you make more money with your blog.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>1. Treat it like a business. The purpose of every business is to make money. Therefore, if you want your blog to be profitable, then you have to run it like a business. That doesn&#8217;t mean you have to hire employees, or anything like that, but rather that you need to take it seriously, and be willing to invest some time, money and resources to make it successful.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>2. Have a plan. You may as well start off on the right foot. The vast majority of successful businesses began with a written business plan. Try to be as specific as you can. How will you generate income? Who are your visitors? What percentage are likely to click on ads or buy something? How will you get traffic to your blog? What is your marketing plan? These are only a few of the questions you should answer.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>3. Free isn&#8217;t always best. Blogger.com and WordPress.com have made it easy for anybody to start a blog for free. There is nothing wrong with using free blog services to learn about blogging. However, you will have less control over your blog if you host it on those sites. Yes, it&#8217;s free, but they can also remove your blog without any warning, and that&#8217;s not good for blogging for profit.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>4. Invest a little. Okay, so going the free routine isn&#8217;t good for business, but what&#8217;s the other option? The good news is that you don&#8217;t have to pay anything to Blogger or WordPress to use their blogging platforms. However, you should set them up on your own domain name and hosting. You should be able to get a new domain name for under $10 per year, and decent hosting can be found for as little as $10 per month. That&#8217;s almost nothing when compared to starting a traditional business.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>5. Monetize it. There are two main ways people use to generate income from their blogs. The first is by selling affiliate products. This is where you get a percentage of each sale for selling someone else&#8217;s product. You will get a special link that identifies you as the seller, so they know you made the sale. The second way of monetization is Google AdSense. You sign up for their program, then add a snippet of code to your blog. They will then add targeted ads, and you get money every time one of your visitors clicks on an ad.</p>

<p>Chris Brown, President of Marketing Resources  Results, Inc. and publisher of the award winning blog Branding and Marketing, presented three Internet marketing workshops at the Annual Conference of the National Network of Embroidery Professionals (NNEP) in Columbus this past month.</p>
<p>“Online videos, blogging and social media offer new effective marketing tools that can really help build awareness for a small business with very little additional cost,” explained Brown. “To be most effective, business owners need to develop a strategy for their participation so that they are able to connect with prospects and realize sales growth for their company.”</p>
<p>The three workshops were “How to Use Your Blog to Attract New Customers,” “Social Media Strategies that Market Your Business” and “Use Video to Improve Your Marketing Results.” Each 90-minute session offered concrete tips and take away tools that attendees could quickly use to understand and participate in social media marketing for their business.</p>
<p>“Our participants were thrilled to have Chris Brown as a presenter and Iâ€™m still hearing wonderful feedback about all they learned,” said Jennifer Cox, NNEP President and conference organizer. One workshop attendee from Michigan had this to say: “I attended two of Chris Brownâ€™s workshops and I learned a lot.  Now I just have to go home and start to practice.”</p>
<p>In the blogging workshop Brown explained how blogs allow a business owner to connect with their readers. A business blog provides the opportunity to tell a story, incorporate video and photos to demonstrate a point, and invite readers to share in the discussion or offer their opinion. Brown suggested that attendees start by reading blogs and joining in the discussion via the comment section. When a business professional is ready to start their own blog, is in important to determine their primary topic and the target audience they hope to engage. Many business owners find blogging to be an inexpensive, effective way to interact with potential customers or clients.</p>
<p>The video marketing workshop included six ways business owners use video to improve their marketing efforts. It included a hands-on session where owners created their own video for posting on the Internet. Attendees also learned about creating a YouTube channel for their business, incorporating a live link back to the primary company website and using key word phrases to assist with search engine results.</p>
<p>Creating a strategy for online marketing participation starts with determining what the business professional wants to accomplish. Once a goal is determined, the social media vehicles that will best achieve those goals are the ones to participate in regularly.</p>
<p>&#8220;Marketing is such an important part of our members&#8217; business and Internet marketing is a complex topic,&#8221; said Cox. &#8220;I know our members that attended these marketing workshops left with a better understanding.&#8221;</p>
<p>Most annual conferences invite speakers from within their industry to present topics that impact their membersâ€™ business. However, marketing on the Internet is now recognized as a valuable and powerful vehicle; regardless of industry and therefore, more and more conference organizers find value in offering Internet marketing workshops.</p>
<p>“An annual conference is a great place for learning about emerging marketing tactics,” explained Brown. “Often members of an association or organization donâ€™t have the time away from work to hear about these new tools. Caldwell presented to the entire staff, as well as representatives from some of ISGâ€™s web site design and web marketing clients.
<p>“The ISG Way” event kicked off with a brief history of the company, including some entertaining photos of the staff from the beginning stages of their career with ISG. Each member of the ISG staff also gave a brief presentation about their role with ISG, as well as their personal and professional goals, passions, hobbies, and pursuits.</p>
<p>Caldwell then proceeded to review the core concepts of the companyâ€™s success over the years, discussed strengths and weaknesses, and offered a glimpse of what was on the horizon for ISG.</p>
