Using Social Media Sites for Business and Fun

July 3rd, 2009

Platforms that offer online networking and social bookmarking are all the rage today. It can be a little difficult, however, when it comes to knowing which to choose. That’s where social media reviews come in. When reading the reviews, however, you may find vastly different judgments about their content. Some people would defend their social media choices to the bitter end. That may be due, however, to being unaware of all the available options, so all their time was taken up with one site before they knew what was happening. Some of those who are insistent about their choice don’t even know the difference online business networking, social bookmarking sites and social networking sites that are primarily there for fun. Even some avid social media users don’t know that there are also social networking platforms, like Capazoo, that use small amounts of money per click to pay for people to use and promote their sites.

People often don’t know the distinction between online social networks because there is enormous overlap of features on the various sites. Sites such as Facebook can be used just for fun or for serious business networking, or both! There are thousands upon thousands of user-driven free social networking communities, such as New Energy Network, which specialize in focused interests. These social networking sites are important because they’re completely user-driven and allow focused conversations surrounding people’s interests. Niches can be as specific as book aficionados, who now have many online communities geared just to them. Social networking websites , like GoodReads have book reviews and other features created just for people who love to read. Another powerful form of online social networking is online social bookmarking, because it opens up new worlds of information storage and retrieval. Social bookmarking sites like Mister Wong allow people to save their favorite bookmarks so they can access them online any time. Social bookmarking sites also are a great help to Web searchers, because searches are greatly enhanced by keyword tagging. The ability to use keyword tagging also is of value to Web marketers, because backlinks result from the use of bookmarks. A single social bookmark link doesn’t carry a lot of weight but in aggregate, they matter. As with Digg, when a link is posted on these web properties, high Google rankings can result if it is submitted properly and has the right keywords associated with it.

The social media landscape is made even more indistinct by sites like Yahoo Buzz, which are set up for both social networking and social bookmarking. These sites are used for bookmarking but they also have legions of people who frequent them for marketing or socializing. There are a lot of friends and business contacts to be found on these types of Web properties and blog posts featured on these social networking sites have the potential to rank well in Google and other search engines. This combination of amazing benefits is the reason that Internet marketers flock to them.
